Hey Scuttlebutters! Things are heating up on the verge of summer and the verge of the con season! We’ve got a lot going on this year to say the least.

After nearly ten years of selling our fan badges, we’ve accumulated nearly 200 badge designs! Unfortunately that means our artiste alley booth has become pretty crowded and its becoming hard to find space for new designs. So that means for the first time, we are doing a big retirement of about 30 badges. What does that mean? Well, a couple of things. It means you will no longer be able to get these badges at conventions anymore. But what it also means is we’re clearing these guys out for cheap so it’s a great time to add them to your collection before they’re gone! All of these designs are available for $3 each through our online store ONLY.

Meanwhile, if you’re a collector of our badges, we’ve got something special for you. We have a lot of folks stop by the table who have so many badges that they can’t remember what they do and don’t have! So we’ve put together a check list to help you keep track of your collection! Now it’s a challenge of who will fill up their sheets first!

Why are we retiring so many badges? Because we have a TON of new stuff coming that we have to make room for! In the next few months you can expect a bunch of new designs, including more Supernatural, Sherlock, My Little Pony, Bioshock, Avatar and more. Something we’ve wanted to add to our line up is more Pokemon. But with so many options, we need your help to decide what to make! We want to start off by making some badges to honor some other badges — gym badges, that is! Swing over to our DeviantArt and put your 2 cents in on our poll about your favorite gym leader.

It’s another busy year on the road for us, so keep an eye out from coast to coast for our booth. There’s several cons this year that we weren’t able to make it into and folks have been asking — this year we didn’t make it into Acen, Anime Boston or San Japan. As for Fanime, we are on the waiting list. Keep an eye on our Twitter up until the con (and AT
the con) to see if we make it in and where to find us.

If you’re a fan of our comic, Mahou Shounen Fight, you know we haven’t been able to update for a while. We can’t apologize enough for that and we are just DYING to get back to work. This semester JD’s school has been a nightmare, requiring 2 all nighters a week. Needless to say, it’s pretty hard to get out comic pages when you’re working 50 hours a week. But the semester ends in just a few weeks so don’t give up on us yet!

While we’re away from the comic, we’re offering some other MSF-related goodness! First off, we’ve made Yuki and Alex’s backstory available on our website as an illustrated story! We’ve also opened a brand new Tumblr to share little nuggets of sparkly magic — Ask Mahou Shounen! Drop by and ask questions of us or the cast of MSF and we’ll respond with a comic or a doodle.

As if a 500 pound rat monster in an apron and a rubber ducky hat wasn’t enough, we’ve got tons of new stuff for you in this update!

First off, we’ve updated our commenting system so you can easily use custom avatars! (Until now, it was hooked through the Gravitar system.) You’ll want to register for our system and log in. And then push some buttons. You can use whatever you like for your avatar, obviously but if you want something Shounen Fighty, we’ve captured a whole bunch of icons for you to use!

We’ve been excited to announce our new tumblr project, Ask Mahou Shounen! Drop by to ask questions of the cast and one of us will do a sketch or a doodle to respond. Help us figure out things about our characters we never knew! And maybe get some fan service, who knows. ;D

In case it wasn’t obvious, at this point we’ve let go of our update schedule and are posting whenever we’re able to get a page done. JD’s enduring a hellishly grueling semester of school and we’re gearing up for conventions again, so we’re stretched pretty thin. We’ll probably be able to produce a page every couple of weeks, but! In the meantime, we’ll be regularly doing sketches for the Ask Mahou Shounen tumblr so you can still get your magical boy fix until we can update more often!

This weekend kicks off the start of the convention season! This weekend we’ll be hitting Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle and Sac Con in Sacramento. Come see us!

Wish we’d had the time to do some holiday art, but it’s been a crazy one for us. What we are doing though, is having a sale until the new year! Our badges, posters and prints are marked down AND we’re taking some commissions!

Tis the season to get in nonsense arguments about who would win in a fight: Raptor Jesus or Kwanzabot. I think we all know the answer, and to celebrate, have some holiday savings!

We’re doing a few new things for the holidays this year! Now that we’ve got the whole Scuttlebutt store set up on Storenvy, it’s easier for us to run this sort of thing, yay. Like each year, we’re offering 8 badges for $20. But we’re also offering 20% off all of our prints and posters — including our popular Toph vs. Weeping Angels poster. Give Christmas to someone you love in the knowledge that Toph will keep you safe from the angels.

We’re ALSO taking some commissions! OMG!! We know a lot of you have been waiting for the chance to get some original art from us and while we’re not doing watercolors, we are opening up a few slots for digital commissions. We’re doing busts for $20 or a pair of busts for $40 which you can get as a simple digital file or have us make you a badge or a print out of it.

Hard to believe that 2012 is almost over and that tomorrow is the end of the world. It’s been another hard year on the road for us, relying on you lot to keep us fed, and we can’t be more grateful for you. We’ve had tons of great experiences this year and met SO many incredible people. We explored a lot more of the comic book side of the convention circuit in 2012, including exhibiting at Emerald City Comic Con, Phoenix CC and most exciting, at San Diego Comic Con with Prism comics. (We’re going to be back again next year, yay!)

Our biggest adventure in 2012 was our move up from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area, the decision of which we made almost exactly a year ago. It’s been a big change and a great experience — we’re not even afraid of the sounds anymore in the big quiet suburbs after our urban lifestyle. We added a wonderful dog to our life and built ourselves an awesome studio in our new home. (Seriously, we’ll have to put up some photos sometime.) We’ve had lots of set-backs and lots of struggles in these last few years but we love what we’re doing and you all make it worth it! We hope you’ll stick with us to see what we’ve got planned for 2013. (If 2012 doesn’t end in fiery armageddon, anyway.)

We’ve got a bunch of conventions for next year already booked, including BakAnime in Bakersfield next month Jan 20, and then coming up in March, we’ll be at Emerald City Comic Con and Sakura Con in Seattle, as well as Kawaii Kon in Honolulu. We’re also confirmed for Acen, Big Wow San Jose, Phoenix Comic Con, Denver Comic Con, Anime Expo and San Diego Comic Con. Be sure to tell us if you find a convention you want to see us at because we’re always on the look out for new places to visit!

For those of you following our comic, Shounen Fight, you’ve no doubt noticed our poor update schedule and for that, we can’t apologize enough. Never think that we’ve given up on our comic, we just have more on our plates then we can handle sometimes and are doing our best to make our update schedule more regular and on time. We had been hoping to start doing the fund-raising for the big Shounen Fight compilation book this month (which you heard about if you were at Daishocon) but after some deliberation we’ve decided that we want to put some work into bettering the comic all around before we start asking you for money. We are VERY excited about putting together our big book though and all the extra stuff that will be in it for you, so we’ll be proudly announcing our Kickstarter project as soon as we’ve got a more solid date. We thank you so much for your support on our project, 2012 was full of meeting amazing fans and people we’ve talked to online for some time! We’re super lucky that we have the opportunity to get around the country to see all you awesome people.

Only one more week til we’ll be heading out to Wisconsin for our third year as guests at Daishocon! We’ve got a ton of stuff planned for the con, including our regular cosplay competition and awards show. We’ll also be making an appearance on a very fun-looking anime talk show where we’ll be making a big announcement! We’ll also be having a raffle all weekend that will culminate at the end of the con at our cosplay show. Can’t wait to see you again, Daisho!
