Been a while, hasn’t it! I dunno about you folks, but I’m super excited to be back on Mahou Shounen Fight again. After a truly grueling semester, I’m just glad to have the summer months to decompress a little and go back to drawing stuff I love to draw!

That’s not to say I didn’t learn a lot– This semester I took a course on creature design and anatomy, and it was one of the coolest classes I’ve ever taken. It also required between 40 and 50 hours a week to finish the assignments to levels of quality and I ended up pulling at least one all-nighter every week to manage my assignments and I STILL ended up not finishing two of the 14 pieces we were assigned. Every week we illustrated an animal –an existing creature and an original/invented creature on alternating weeks. These illustrations included skeletal and musculature anatomical orthographics, a full color render, and a cartoon/caricature version. Here’s a couple of the pieces I did:

What I’m hoping is that I’ll be able to take the stuff I learned about animal anatomy and apply it to some of Shounen Fight’s future crazy creatures!

I’ve also been starting to contribute more to our AskMahouShounen tumblr, which you should definitely check out if you haven’t yet! Dusty’s been posting some great doodles there, breaking out of the writer’s box to stretch those drawing skills! 🙂

2013’s been a crazy year so far– and a lot’s been going on with us, some great stuff and some shitty stuff and a whole lot of rough, challenging, exciting stuff too. With summer under way, we’re working on getting for Anime Expo and San Diego Comic Con where we will again be working with Prism Comics!

Thanks everyone for sticking with us and being patient and hopefully coming back again now that Shounen Fight is getting back on track! 🙂
